Martin Family History
The Martin Family began operating as Advantage RELOCATION SYSTEMS LTD. on May 1, 1991, but the family's moving experience started back in 1949 when Gil Martin purchased his first truck in Edmonton, Alberta. He began to work for MacCosham Van Lines. Gil continued to work as an owner-operator until he was hired on as a company driver and began making the lengthy trips east between Calgary and Toronto. He continued as a driver until he entered the sales department in Edmonton in 1963.
The company saw a great potential in Gil and offered him a manager's position in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, in 1969. With his family of six at his side, they made the move. Gil's wife, Eldien worked for the company from 1977 until she passed away in 2007. The Martin sons entered the moving industry at a very young age, starting out as helpers and each eventually ending up as drivers for the branch, learning all the skills that Gil had to teach.
